My brother's friend Jack Thompson remembers what farm life was like back in the "good ol' days..."

One evening, a salesman was out traveling in the countryside when he realized that he had not made any plans for lodging for that night. To his relief, he spotted one farm house along the empty rural road. So the salesman drove up the farmer's dirt driveway and parked his spiffy new Model-T automobile next to the farmer's horse-drawn buggy. He knocked on the door and when the farmer answered, he explained his predicament and requested lodging for the night. "Well," said the farmer, "we don't really have room for a guest, but we could probably squeeze you in with my son, if you don't mind sharing a bed with him." The salesman agreed.

After dinner, the salesman and the farmer's son, a boy about six years old, proceeded upstairs to the boy's bedroom. As the salesman was about to climb into bed, he noticed that the boy was kneeling at the side of the bed with his head bowed. "How cute!" thought the salesman. "The young lad is saying his prayers! I should set a good example and do the same." So the salesman knelt on his side of the bed bowed his head.

The boy looked up and said, "My Daddy is going to be very angry with you in the morning!"

"Why is that?" replied the perplexed salesman.

"'Cause the pot is on THIS side of the bed!"
