Since this week’s tasks are both about finding things that are close, but not exact, and because my wife has us on a Weird Al kick lately, let’s pick Close But No Cigar as this week’s musical selection.
Perl Weekly Challenge 382‘s tasks are “Hamiltonian Cycle” and “Replace Question Mark”.
As soon as I saw “Hamiltonian”, I knew I needed to use a song from Hamilton: An American Musical… but I couldn’t decide which song best fit with “Cycle”. So I did what I always do when I’m stumped for a creative choice: I asked my wife.
“The Hamilton Polka“, she immediately responded.1 “It’s a five-minute song cycle.”
When she’s right, she’s right.

This week I honed in on “great” for the music choice, and Freddie Mercury’s version of The Great Pretender immediately jumped to mind.

I’m making another entry backfilling the challenges I missed while my mother was dying; I’m doing these in her honor.
Perl Weekly Challenge 297‘s tasks were “Contiguous Array” and “Semi-Ordered Permutation”.
I thought about what music I should pick, and “semi” jumped out at me. Semi makes me think trucks, and trucks make me think of Thirty Thousand Pounds of Bananas.

So, I think for music this week, I’ll give you a number by Armstrong.1

Hmmm. Reverse. What does “reverse” make me think of musically? The existence of this song.
Perl Weekly Challenge 376‘s tasks are “Chessboard Squares” and “Doubled Words”.
I already picked Chess the musical back in PWC 281, double for 290, and word for 255 and 360, but I haven’t given any musical love to squares, which is a shame, because it’s hip to be square… (or, wait, do I mean it’s hip to be A square?).
